Vancouver Christian School

Education

Vancouver Christian School is a replacement of an aging K-8 school with a sustainable, state-of-the-art K-12 school in East Vancouver. On a constrained 2.25 acre site, we have addressed the need to manage neighbourhood traffic concerns while creating a new facility which fits seamlessly into its context. The new Vancouver Christian School features a full double-track academic program, two gymnasia, a "super" science lab, art and band rooms, distance learning studios and multiple learning assistance rooms. The building has been designed to the highest levels of accessibility, functionality and sustainability and is planned to support Vancouver Christian School's growth over the next 50 years.

When the school needed room to grow without increasing its footprint, we collaborated again with VCS to design and transform their existing K–12 building with a 6,000 sq.ft. rooftop addition that now houses a new library, classrooms, a grad lounge, and support spaces.Inside, the new spaces are shaped around flexibility, accessibility, and natural flow, expanding opportunities for learning, gathering, and creative expression. Outside, the steel superstructure and high-performance envelope were engineered for longevity, energy efficiency, and sustainability, maximizing impact without increasing the school’s site footprint. This project continues our long-standing partnership with VCS and demonstrates what integration looks like at Omicron across our architecture, interior design, and S.M.E. engineering teams.

The result, an expansion that gives the school room to grow upward and serve the next 50 years of its evolution, while staying firmly rooted in its community.
