BC Hydro - Prince George Field Operations Facility
Omicron was engaged to deliver an 85,000 sq.ft. regional field operations centre designed to support BC Hydro’s rapidly expanding workforce, which was expected to triple over five years. The facility now accommodates more than 200 employees and serves as a major operations hub for communities across northern British Columbia.
Built to post‑disaster standards, the centre included a fully equipped Emergency Operations Centre and was designed to remain operational during extreme weather events, ensuring continuity of service for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
Targeting LEED Gold certification, the project incorporated a range of sustainable strategies to reduce energy and water consumption, enhance indoor environmental quality, and lower long‑term operating costs. The design featured exposed structural wood roof elements and the use of regional materials, including pine beetle wood, to support local industry and celebrate the province’s Wood First initiative.
