2008 AIBC Architectural Award for the Fred Kaiser Building

The Fred Kaiser Building at UBC, completed by Omicron and architectsAlliance (Toronto), was recognized in the 2008 AIBC Architectural Awards program. The project received a Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia Award of Excellence in Architecture in the Merit category.

The AIBC awards recognize “excellence in architectural practice, acknowledge the achievements of BC architects and recognize the ways in which architects help to define the province’s built environment”. 51 submissions were reviewed, 9 of which were selected to receive awards of excellence.

The Fred Kaiser Building is part of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UBC. Housing administrative offices, seminar rooms, research labs and shared public spaces, this building features a full spectrum of sustainable design elements on a highly constrained building site. The building is designed to be open, welcoming and transparent, with generous expanses of glass providing views both into and out of the building. Providing a seamless link to the surrounding buildings, the Fred Kaiser Building also brings a contemporary face to the campus.

Omicron is honoured to have received this prestigious award and is pleased to have partnered with architectsAlliance to deliver such an exciting and beautiful addition to UBC’s Point Grey campus.
