Omicron acquires OfficeWorks

Acquisition builds BC’s largest integrated design and construction company

January 25, 2004

At a time when British Columbia’s design and construction sector is booming, one of BC’s largest integrated design and construction companies has acquired 100% of one of Vancouver’s best-known office design/build companies.

Effective immediately, Omicron and OfficeWorks create BC’s largest integrated design and construction firm – with more than 100 designers and builders. Purchase price and other transaction details are not disclosed.

“With the acquisition of OfficeWorks, Omicron continues to build and expand its core strengths at a time when BC’s design and construction sector – especially office interior design – is extremely busy,” says Bill Tucker, a senior partner with Omicron. “We’re offering a comprehensive turn-key service for our clients who are demanding even more from their design and construction partners. This acquisition positions Omicron to serve our clients better.”

According to the BC Ministry of Small Business and Economic Development’s latest statistics, BC’s construction sector improved 40% to $62 billion in planned or current projects in December 2004.

“For employees, customers and suppliers, this deal is great news,” says Peter Selnar, president and founder of OfficeWorks. “OfficeWorks is now in a position to offer more to clients through partnering with a company with compatible values and growth strategies.”

Since the companies’ skill sets are complementary, there are no planned job losses related to the acquisition.  A transition program of 12-18 months will see the two partners eventually blend into one office under the Omicron brand.  Until then, the companies will continue to operate out of their respective offices and under their own corporate names.
