Omicron and Coast Capital Savings (CCS) teamed up, for the third year in a row, to race against time and deliver an exciting entry for CANstruction 2008.
Incorporating the theme of “Books and Bytes”, Omicron and CCS chose to design and build a structure inspired by the Robert Munsch book “The Paper Bag Princess”. With only 24 hours to construct the structure, Omicron and CCS assembled a team of 35 volunteers for the build, donating a total of 5,350 cans to the Food Bank. The final sculpture is called “Our Favourite Munschie” and displays a fire-breathing dragon and an extra-sassy Paper Bag Princess.
CANstruction is an annual international design/build competition benefitting the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and brings together teams of architects, engineers, graphic artists and students to build sculptures using only canned food and other non-perishables. The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits and at the close of the exhibition, all of the canned food used in the structures is donated to local food banks.
With over 20 entries providing 140,000 food items during CANstruction’s 6th year in Vancouver, this event makes a considerable impact on the Food Bank’s ability to provide nourishment to those in need in our community.
