Always keen to go green, Omicronians pulled together on Clean Air Day to decrease their CO2 emissions by walking, cycling, carpooling and taking public transit to work. Omicron cyclists could be seen traversing the city with their Omicron flags in tow. Walkers, transit-lovers and carpool fanatics arrived at the office in droves on the rainy Wednesday morning.
With 96% participation in the 2007 Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) Commuter Challenge, Omicron surpassed all expectations and placed 1st in the 100 - 200 company size category. The goal of the Commuter Challenge is to get as many people as possible across Canada to commute to work using sustainable modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, transit and carpooling in order to reduce green house gas emissions.
Leading up to the event, the Challenge Committee surveyed staff and used the results to help plan carpools, arrange transit options and organize a cycling commuter group. Mike Sweet, the bike ride organizer, started in Burnaby picking up 12 riders along the way before heading to the office in downtown Vancouver. The group was easy to spot with their custom Omicron flags blowing in the breeze!
To help entice staff to participate, the firm’s Principals cooked up a delicious waffle breakfast for those who took part in the challenge. Congratulations to all participants. Keep it up you green machines!
