For the second year in a row, Omicron and Coast Capital Savings (CCS) teamed up to race against time and deliver an exciting entry for CANstruction 2007. This yearly international design/build competition benefits the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and brings together teams of architects, engineers, graphic artists and students to build sculptures using only canned food and other non-perishables.
Incorporating the theme of “Our Favourite Things”, Omicron and CCS chose to design and build a structure inspired by “The Great CANadian Outdoors”. With only 24 hours to construct the structure, Omicron and CCS assembled a team of 40 volunteers for the build, donating a total of 5,940 cans to the Food Bank. The final presentation revealed a camping scene – forest backdrop, tent and campfire (complete with the makings of a great smore!).
With a record 25 entries providing 120,000 food items during CANstruction’s 5th year in Vancouver, this event makes a considerable impact on the Food Bank’s ability to provide nourishment to those in need in our community.
